I tried connecting my iPhone 13 to Gills’ host port using a Lightning to USB-C cable, the Patcher recognizes the iPhone but can’t send or receive MIDI. any way to connect iPhone to Gills/Core?
You’ll have to set the iPhone to be a MIDI device, no idea if and how iOS does it. Here is an example for Android: Portable setup with an android phone - #3 by Ksoloti
ok I got the setup working:
I had to use a Lightning to USB OTG adapter with a charging port, so that the iPhone is charging & Gills is receiving power.
then I used the LK app (basically a MIDI controller app) and Ksoloti Core shows up on the device list menu.
however I do want to just simply connect my iPhone to Gills using one cable instead of two cables + adapter. any solutions?
update on this thread: tried plugging iPhone 15 Pro Max’s Type-C port into Ksoloti Gills’ Prog port: Gills turns on, and reads MIDI.
Thats good to hear, the iPhone acts better when connected as host (Gills is device) then? Might be due to the power draw when iPhone is connected as a device and tries to charge itself off USB?
that’s my guess yeah: too much power draw.
anyone here got an iPhone?
