Hi - I’m interested in creating a DIY board inspired by Gills. I was just looking at the schematic, and I have a couple of beginner questions. Firstly, is there any particular reason for including the 9V input instead of just using a 5V USB PSU, or is it just for convenience…? Also, have there been any other significant thoughts, changes or suggestions on the design since the v0.5 schematic…?
Hi! Curious as to what you’ll come up with!
particular reason for including the 9V input instead of just using a 5V USB PSU
- USB charger PSUs: usually the cheaper, the noisier. They are meant for charging stuff as fast as possible…
- USB ports on computers: noisy, especially on laptops the USB ports may not be able to provide the “guaranteed” 500mA.
- If using a power-hungry USB device via the host port, the external 9-15V DC power supply will be able to provide plenty.
- When on external DC, USB 5V will be switched off which may further reduce noise or power loops?
have there been any other significant thoughts, changes or suggestions on the design since the v0.5 schematic
I have the v0.6 design here with the following changes:
- Add RC low pass filters to encoder AB pins and switch
- Add I2C EEPROM for easy preset memory handling (or other data)
- Rework “Ksoloti unified” output insert header. Perhaps for a stereo filter daughterboard?
This revision has not been produced yet since the v0.5 batch order was huge. That batch is almost sold out now however.
Here’s the v0.6 schematic:

Brilliant, thanks!
