Hi, I assume you mean the Gills box? It is using TRS jacks because
They’re more readily available (mono ones may even be more expensive. You can easily convert a stereo one into mono by pulling out the ring terminal brackets though)
Anyone sourcing their own jacks in the future would not have to get 1 TRS for the headphones and 4 TS for the ins/outs
Arguably, soldering the non-connected ring terminals might improve robustness and stability (?) and I can’t be arsed to pull out hundreds of brackets for no apparent reason. So I left the TRS pins in there, it is only 8 more solder joints.
Not intended, but room for future upgradeability or custom user connections…
To answer your question, there are 2 channels in, 2 channels out on a default Ksoloti Core, and on Gills. If you’ve ever seen anything about 4 channels, it might have been part of
The USB audio firmware (additional 4 channels I/O out of the USB Prog port to/from a DAW or similar)
I2Scodec firmware (2 additional physical I/O with a suitable breakout board, though Gills has some of the required pins occupied!)
The planned upgrade of the Ksoloti Core, working title “Geko”, which is planned to have 4 channels of physical I/O available by default. Working on it… This upgraded board should be able to be plugged into, and fully used with, the Gills hardware part, and THEN you could solder the extra inputs and outputs to the respective ring terminals.
4 channels on a geko would be pretty amazing…! what would i do with all the old axos and ksos then…?!?! thanks so much for plugging away at this excellent platform.
So, I was pondering wether to get another Gills and went back to the documentation page. Would it be possible to use the EX 1 and EX 2 stereo Jacks for this purpouse?
