I bought two Axoloti boards way back when they first came out (via a Kickstarter, maybe!?) but I never found time to do more than briefly hook one up to an oscilloscope and watch Jerobeam Fenderson’s ‘Oscilloscope Music’ album!
A few weeks ago I was playing around with a LinuxSampler Mellotron patch, and it struck my that I might be able to use the Axoloti as a standalone Mellotron to free my laptop up for other things. It took me a couple of weeks to actually find my Axolitis (I couldn’t even remember what they were called!), but now I have one set up and talking to the more modern Ksoloti software.
Sure enough, it seems somebody (Abhoth) already turned the old Axoloti into a Mellotron, and the patch is in the community library so I’m working on that now. The links in the patch to the sample bank that was used, no longer work. I have a sample bank that I’m using with LinuxSampler, which may even be from the same ultimate source. I’m going to attempt to understand the patch and get the samples in the right format and directory format for this thing to work, but if anybody could point me in the direction of any advice or shortcuts, I’d be grateful! Maybe Abhoth is here, even?
